Master of Nurse Practitioner
Overview
Prepare yourself to lead practice and service development, and positively influence the delivery of healthcare services and policy development with our Master of Nurse Practitioner.
Ideal for advanced practice registered nurses working within their specialty area, you will gain expert theoretical and clinical knowledge to autonomously assess, diagnose, plan and manage the care of clients, prescribe medications and treatment regimens, including the ordering of diagnostic investigations, and refer clients to other healthcare professionals within multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
Founded upon the principles of culturally responsive, person-centred care, this course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to respond to diverse acute, chronic, and complex clinical presentations to improve the health outcomes of individuals, their families, and the broader community.
This course has also been developed to incorporate the four domains of clinical practice, education, research, and leadership that inform the national Nurse Practitioner Standards for Practice, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
As a student, you will be required to create a portfolio demonstrating your emerging advanced practice nursing knowledge and skills. Your portfolio will comprise a collection of your work you have completed throughout your course, including written work, presentations, reflections and your log of 340 hours of integrated professional practice. The portfolio you create will be utilised by the NMBA and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (Ahpra) when determining your eligibility for endorsement within the advanced practice role.

Nurse practitioners can work in a variety of healthcare settings, including rural and remote health, residential and aged care settings, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples health, ambulatory care settings, emergency department practice, complex health and chronic disease management, oncology settings, alcohol and substance use, public and private hospitals and health services, primary care settings, community care settings, and private practice.

Professional Practice - Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC)
Core
This course is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) on behalf of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Upon successful completion, you will be eligible to apply to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) for endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with the NMBA.
Advanced Health Assessment, Diagnostics and Interventions - NURS28010
You will complete 40 hours of integrated professional practice within your specialty area, supervised by your mentor(s) or supervisor(s), as arranged by the student prior to admission into the course. This integrated professional practice component will typically occur during Term 1 of the first year of study.
Nurse Practitioner Integrated Professional Practice 1 - NURS29011
You will complete 150 hours of integrated professional practice within your specialty area, supervised by your mentor(s) or supervisor(s), as arranged by the student prior to admission into the course. This integrated professional practice component will typically occur during Term 2 of the first year of study.
Nurse Practitioner Integrated Professional Practice 2 - NURS29012
You will complete 150 hours of integrated professional practice within your specialty area, supervised by your mentor(s) or supervisor(s), as arranged by the student prior to admission into the course. This integrated professional practice component will typically occur during Term 2 of the second year of study.
Duration and timing of Integrated Professional Practice
Throughout your course, you will be required to complete 340 hours of supernumerary integrated professional practice within your advanced practice context.

You are required to maintain a log documenting 340 hours of integrated professional practice completed throughout the course. The log should demonstrate engagement with your clinical support team and mentors, and evidence your development toward competence for endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner.
Integrated professional practice hours will be audited at the conclusion of each term to confirm satisfactory completion of interprofessional practice requirements. If you have difficulty or are unable to meet the clinical requirements at any time during enrolment in this course, you are required to raise this as soon as possible with the Head of Course so that solutions can be identified and implemented with the clinical facility.
If you have prior experience or have studied previously, you may be eligible for credit or recognition of prior learning (RPL), which can help reduce your study load and the time it takes to complete your degree.

Fees & Scholarships
Indicative First-Year Fee
This is a new course with the first intake expected in 2027.
Fee estimates for the first year of study are expected to be available in September 2026.
Commonwealth Supported Places
With Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) available for this course from 2027, you may be eligible for significant fee savings, provided you meet CSP eligibility requirements. CSPs are subsidised by the Australian Government, meaning you are only required to pay the student contribution rather than full tuition fees.
If you are not eligible for a CSP or if CSPs are full, you will be required to pay full fees.
Important
If you are a new student and are offered a CSP, you must submit an eCAF (electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form) with the Australian Government to confirm your place, even if you are ineligible for or don’t intend to use a HECS-HELP Loan.
This is a Government requirement, and if you don’t submit before your commencing census date, your enrolment for the term will be cancelled.
HECS-HELP
You may be eligible for a HECS-HELP government loan if you are offered a CSP. HECS-HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme that assists you in paying your student contributions. Provided you meet the HECS-HELP eligibility criteria, you may use HECS-HELP to defer part or all of your student contribution fees.
Part of your course costs will include Student Services and Amenities Fees (SSAF). SSAF is charged in addition to your student contribution or tuition fees and is used to help enhance your study experience. There may also be other costs as part of your studies, such as textbooks, technology expenses, travel expenses, professional certifications, uniforms, or vaccinations.
