CQU Collection Notice

The CQUniversity Australia Privacy Statement informs visitors to our website about the information (including personal) that may be collected about them and their browsing activity when they visit CQU’s Corporate Website and how the information is used. 

Specifically, we describe how we collect your information, and the purpose of collection.  

The CQU Corporate Website is administered by CQUniversity Australia, a trading name of Central Queensland University. 

How We Collect and Use Your Information

CQUniversity collects, uses, and stores personal information for the primary purpose of:

  • informing you about course updates and important application timelines; and
  • contacting you with event invitations and news relevant to your interests through email, phone, messaging or post.

For advertising purposes, de-identified personal information from CQU forms may be used to enhance ad targeting and reporting (including the creation of lookalike audiences). This information is encrypted and securely transmitted to third-party platforms such as META and Google.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties or allow them to sell the information we share.

If we intend to use your information for an alternative primary purpose, we will specify this in the collection notice provided on the form.

We use cookies and similar technologies to enhance your experience and for advertising purposes. A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your computer or mobile device to identify you as a visitor. Cookies recognise your device and remember important information to make your use of our website more convenient. They can also be used for retargeting purposes across multiple advertising platforms.

We collect information via cookies and pixels, including:

  • tracking anonymous and known user activity from your interactions with our website; and
  • tracking anonymous and known user interactions with paid advertising, such as whether you were served a CQU ad or clicked on it.

When you visit our website, our servers automatically log certain information to help us understand how visitors use our site and to improve your experience. Our server may log the following information:

  • IP address;
  • Date and time of the visit;
  • Pages accessed and documents downloaded;
  • Type of browser and operating system used; and
  • Authentication credentials if accessing a restricted site or application.

Our website uses Sitecore DXP, a service that transmits website traffic data to Sitecore servers located within Australia.

The University may also use personal information for research and learning. This includes analysing both identifiable and de-identified personal information to improve services, student learning, educational practices and support services.

Policies and Compliance

Information collected can be disclosed without consent when required by law.

We ensure that personal information is responsibly collected, used and managed in accordance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld , the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the University’s Privacy Policy and Procedure

The Policy applies to all areas of the University.

Right to Information

Individuals have the right to access personal information within CQUniversity held about them, subject to any exceptions in relevant legislations.
