Work may take place in a range of community service areas such as mental health, domestic violence, alcohol and other drugs, child protection, youth, casework and case management contexts.

This qualification reflects the role of community service workers who design and deliver person-centred services to individuals and/or groups. Workers may provide support, advocacy or interventions to individual clients, groups or communities across a range of services. At this level, workers may be autonomous with limited responsibility within established parameters, and may be required to supervise and lead other workers in projects or teams. Work may take place in a range of community service settings which include, case work or case management contexts.

This is a nationally recognised accredited course.

Mandatory requirements - You will be required to either be working in or have access to volunteering in a community services organisation and have a suitably qualified supervisor from the Community Services sector to sign you off on industry reports. These reports assess your ability to perform tasks in the workplace, they are referred to as '3rd party reports'. Some units within your course will require you to complete these workplace task and are identified in the assessment requirements for that unit.

This course has no residential schools.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement

The COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory to be eligible to attend a WIL placement for this course. Students will be required to provide evidence of having completed a COVID-19 vaccination schedule by the closing date prior to a WIL placement. The vaccine received must be a vaccine approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Australia.

It is also highly recommended that students have completed Year 10 or equivalent.

Students are required to complete the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.

To receive the TAFE Priority Skills Fund (TPSF) subsidy for this course you must be an existing worker in the Community Services and Health industry, which includes parents and unpaid carers of NDIS participants. If you are looking to apply for the TPSF subsidy and don't meet these requirements you could consider applying for CHC32015 Certificate III in Community Services.
