Recent Secondary Education

If you have recently completed your secondary education, this means that you have completed high school, or you have completed your senior secondary studies at TAFE or through a vocational education and training (VET) provider in the last two years.

As an applicant with recent secondary education, admission to university will mainly be based on your high school results, your OP or ATAR (if you received one), or other recognised qualifications that you completed while at school.

ADMISSION INFORMATION

As an applicant with recent secondary education, you may find the following admission information helpful. Browse the options for the situation that is relevant to you.

As a current Year 12 student eligible for an OP or ATAR you are considered for an offer based on your OP/ATAR (or other recognised qualifications undertaken while at school). Some exceptions may apply to courses with additional entry requirements.

If you are a current Year 12 student ineligible to receive an OP or ATAR you may be assigned a selection rank based on your Year 12 study and will be considered for an offer based on this selection rank (or other recognised qualifications undertaken while at school). Some exceptions may apply to courses with additional entry requirements.

Our Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) program is an ideal course to help prepare you for university study.

As a current International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma student you will be assigned a selection rank based on your score from your completed IB Diploma. As agreed by admissions centres around Australia, the IB score is converted to a 'combined rank'. The combined rank is on the same scale as the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank). If you are an IB Diploma student you will be considered for an offer based on this combined rank (or other recognised qualifications undertaken while at school). Some exceptions may apply to courses with additional entry requirements.

Your results from Home Schooling, Accelerated Christian Education and other non-standard Year 12 programs (with SAT tests) may also be assigned a selection rank and considered for an offer based on this selection rank (or other recognised qualifications undertaken while at school). Some exceptions may apply to courses with additional entry requirements. If you have questions, get in touch with us via our contact us eform or call 13 27 86.

As an applicant with overseas Year 12 study, you can still apply to study a university course. CQUniversity will consider equivalent overseas Year 12 qualifications for admissions purposes.  If you have secondary or tertiary qualifications from countries where English is not the standard language of instruction, you must provide evidence of English language proficiency. If you have questions, get in touch with us via our contact us eform or call 13 27 86.

If you have completed other recognised qualifications at school such as competency-based and graded AQF Certificates III and IV, diplomas, higher education study, and some creative arts qualifications (in the areas of music, dance, and speech), then you will also be assigned a selection rank.

HOW TO APPLY

In most situations, you will need to apply via a Tertiary Admission Centre, such as QTAC, UAC, VTAC, or SATAC, or via our ApplyCQUni portal to apply for an undergraduate course at CQUniversity.

The TAC you apply via is dependent on the course that you would like to study and usually where you live (if applying to study online) or where you intend to study (if applying to study on campus).

You can view the application options available for each course on our course pages within the How to Apply section. You can also contact us to find out the best way to apply for your course of interest.
