Credit for Prior Learning

At CQUniversity, we recognise your skills and knowledge gained from prior learning and experience to help you gain entry into our courses. The advantage of credit for prior learning is that your skills will be formally acknowledged as part of a nationally recognised qualification which may reduce your study load.

This is perfect for anyone who is looking for increased opportunities when re-entering the workforce, gaining job promotions, changing careers, moving to a new industry, meeting industry regulations, or supporting your immigration application.

CQUniversity offers two pathways for students applying for credit for prior learning, depending on the course they are intending to study. Please refer to the section below that best suits your course admission.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) TAFE

New to TAFE at CQUniversity? You may be eligible for RPL into your vocational education and training (VET) qualification. RPL, also known as Skills Assessment, is an assessment process that allows individuals to demonstrate their knowledge, skills and experience around a particular topic.

For more information about RPL and to apply, please visit our Recognition of Prior Learn (RPL) TAFE page.

Credit or Advanced Standing for TAFE Students

If you have studied a nationally accredited course or unit, you may be able to gain credit towards a TAFE skill set, certificate or diploma course with CQUniversity. CQUniversity accepts and provides credit to learners for units of competency and/or modules (unless accreditation, licensing or regulatory requirements prevent this) where these are evidenced by:

  • AQF certification documentation issued by any other RTO or AQF authorised issuing organisation; or
  • Authenticated VET transcripts issued by the Registrar.

For more information about TAFE credit and how to apply, please visit our Credit or Advanced Standing for TAFE Students page.

Credit or Advanced Standing for Higher Education Students

CQUniversity offers Higher Education students the opportunity to gain credit for prior learning into a wide range of undergraduate and post-graduate courses.

If you have previously studied at another university and are looking to transfer your credit for a previous qualification, or would like to apply for recognition of prior learning (formal/informal and non-formal learning), please visit our HE Student Applications page.
