Overview

Develop specialist knowledge and skills for research, professional practice and further learning in relation to domestic and family violence. You will be highly sought after by industry who faces a critical need for trained practitioners to reduce the instance of this important community issue. This course has been designed in consultation with industry and you will benefit from lecturers who are part of the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research, partly funded by the Queensland Government. This means you will have access to leaders in the field, and the opportunity to learn from and contribute to, the latest research. 

Through undertaking independent research related to your practice area/s of interest, you will have the opportunity to enhance your understanding of key domestic and family violence theories and approaches in fields such as working with victims/ survivors and perpetrator behaviour change interventions. Explore legal and safety considerations that arise from working in this area and consider ethical, professional and self-management implications for practice.

In collaboration with the Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research, this qualification offers a pathway to further advanced qualifications in domestic and family violence research and education.

The knowledge and skills gained through completing this course are transferable across a wide range of professions and occupations where workers encounter victims/survivors and perpetrators of domestic and family violence, including criminal justice, child safety, health services and non-government organisations.

Indicative Course Fee

The Indicative Course Fee is the total approximate cost of enrolling in this course depending on the type of place you are offered in 2026, for example a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) or a Full Fee Paying (FFP) Place. The indicative fee should be used as a guide only. Fees are charged per unit studied and the amount quoted above would be applicable if you completed all units in this course in 2026. Fees are reviewed each year and are subject to change. Fee estimates for the following year are expected to be available in September each year.

Commonwealth Supported Places

With Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP) available for this course in 2026, you may be eligible for significant fee savings, provided you meet CSP eligibility requirements. CSPs are subsidised by the Australian Government, meaning you are only required to pay the student contribution rather than full tuition fees.

If you are not eligible for a CSP or if CSPs are full, you will be required to pay full fees.

HECS-HELP

You may be eligible for a HECS-HELP government loan if you are offered a CSP. HECS-HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme that assists you in paying your student contributions. Provided you meet the HECS-HELP eligibility criteria, you may use HECS-HELP to defer part or all of your student contribution fees.
