This engaging course is tailored to teach the factual, technical and procedural knowledge required for you to provide assistance to a health professional while caring for clients. This course is included in the Australian and Queensland Government’s Fee Free TAFE program.
This qualification reflects the role of a variety of workers who use a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge to provide assistance to Health Professional staff for the care of clients. The role of a Health Services Assistant would involve direct client contact under supervision by a Health Professional. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must undertake work placement as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency.

Throughout the duration of this course, students studying by Mixed Mode will be required to attend 2 x 2 day Compulsory Residential School. The Mixed Mode offering has 3 x 2 day residential block opportunities spread throughout the year. |
Vocational Placement is a compulsory 40 hour placement requirement of this course, please refer to the Vocational Placement Guidelines for more details and requirements. Students must meet mandatory requirements as per CQUniversity policy prior to placement. Any enquiries should be directed to the WIL (Work Integrated Learning) Team.
Students studying this course will need to attend 1 x 3 day compulsory practical skills residential workshop. Students will be required to have completed this workshop prior to attending a practical vocational placement. Workshops details will be provided by your teacher and students should confirm workshop dates and attendance prior to booking travel and accommodation.
Requirements
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement
The COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory to be eligible to attend a WIL placement for this course. Students will be required to provide evidence of having completed a COVID-19 vaccination schedule by the closing date prior to a WIL placement. The vaccine received must be a vaccine approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) of Australia.
There are no entry requirements for this course however all students are required to collect and complete mandatory checks as per CQUniversity policy in preparation for the compulsory vocational placement. Please make yourself familiar with the Compulsory Pre-Placement Requirements.

Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrollment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.
