Are you ready to turn a dream into a flourishing business? If you complete Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and New Business, you will have a practical understanding of what it takes to run a successful small business or establish a new venture within a larger organisation.
This qualification reflects the role of individuals establishing or operating a business providing self-employment, as well as those establishing a new venture as part of a larger organisation. These individuals use well developed skills and a broad knowledge base to solve a range of unpredictable problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They may provide leadership and guidance to others and have responsibility for the output of others. Students undertaking this course will develop a new business concept for a simulated workplace.

This qualification consists of competency in 4 core and 6 elective units. Upon completing all 10 units, students will receive a Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and New Business.
Career opportunities for students undertaking this course include roles such as Small Business Manager, Business Coordinator, Office Supervisor, Accounts Supervisor, and Manager.
Pathways: Students who successfully complete BSB40320 Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and New Business will be eligible for entry into the BSB50120 Diploma of Business/BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management. Students may receive credit towards BSB50120/BSB50420 for units completed in BSB40320. Students will also be eligible for entry into CL86 Bachelor of Business, at CQUniversity.
Structure & Availability
12 mths - 24 mths
One (1) unit per 10 week study period
To ensure you can manage your study load, we recommend limiting your workload to no more than one (1) unit per study period.
Some students may progress at a faster rate based on their experience, knowledge, and skills, as they would be able to apply the actual context of workplace experience to their assessments.

This course has no residential schools.
Completion of the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.
What is the purpose of bksb?
The Basic Key Skills Builder (bksb) is an approved online review tool that will give you a level for your English (literacy) and Maths (numeracy) levels, and can also help to identify any skill gaps or areas that you might need additional support in.

To be eligible for Fee Free TAFE students must be the owner, manager, or employee of a small business in Queensland.

Step 1: Get a Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Visit usi.gov.au to create a USI or find an existing one.
Step 2: Prepare your eligibility documentation
So that we can assess your application and eligibility for Government funding options, you’ll need to upload documentation as part of your application. Students must be the owner, manager, or employee of a small business in Queensland and will need to provide confirmation of identity with the following documentation:
- Queensland Residency and Date of Birth. (e.g. Queensland Driver’s License photo must be of the back and front of the license); and
- Australian or New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency (e.g. Medicare Card or Birth Certificate); and
- Employed by Small Business - Letter of Employment on company letterhead (with official signature block) to confirm the employee is an existing worker, further this letter must outline; employment status, length of current employment, and confirmation the applicant is currently actively fulfilling work duties for this period.; or
- Self-Employed - Evidence of an active ABN, a recent customer invoice and a copy of a client list.
