If you are pursuing self-sufficiency as an advanced Information and Communications Technology (ICT) user or wanting to progress to higher-level IT qualifications, this course could be for you.

ICT30120 - Certificate III in Information Technology reflects the roles of individuals who are competent in a broad range of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills.

Those studying online will develop a broad skill set and ICT knowledge, including planning, organisation, innovation, critical thinking, decision making, communication, problem solving, cyber security awareness, information management, conflict resolution, service desk operations, and digital literacy. These skills are typically applied in supporting clients remotely through an ICT service desk or cloud-based support environment.

Individuals who study this course on-campus will develop a broad skill set and ICT knowledge, including planning, organisation, innovation, critical thinking, decision making, communication, troubleshooting, network administration, in-person technical assistance, digital technology use, and hardware installation, configuration and maintenance. These skills are typically applied in supporting clients on-site or in a workshop environment.

Graduates of this course may pursue ICT support roles across a range of small to large organisations.

Online students may be suited to positions that involve supporting remote clients, with potential roles such as service desk support officer, ICT support assistant, or level 1 support officer in tiered, cloud-based environments.

On-campus students may be suited to roles that involve hands-on support for in-person or on-site clients, with potential positions including in-store computer technician, field support technician, or service centre repair technician, focusing on hardware and physical network support.

Students enrolled in the on-campus course structure are required to attend classes at their selected delivery location. Attendance will generally be 1–2 days per week. Specific dates, times, and locations will be provided after admission.

Students studying full-time should plan to dedicate approximately 35 hours per week to their coursework. Part-time students should expect to allocate around 17.5 hours per week.

As this course is competency based it may be possible for learners to complete their training sooner if they have reached the required skill level.

Requirements

Completion of the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy, numeracy and digital literacy assessment prior to enrolment, unless you have completed an equal or higher level course.

The level of difficulty of this course recommends literacy and numeracy skills at ACSF Level 4 for both English and Maths.

During your study

While not needed to apply, you'll need to meet the following requirements throughout your studies.

  • Access to webcam, microphone and internet for the duration of the course.
  • Access to a Windows based computer (or Windows installation on Mac OS) with a minimum of 8GB RAM (16GB strongly recommended) and 250GB of free storage capacity.
  • Willingness to engage in collaborative assessment activities, with peers, including via video conferencing. Support is provided to help students participate in this way.

To successfully complete this qualification, it is recommended that students meet the following requirements:

  • Access to two or more computer screens to assist with simultaneous use of software applications
  • Minimum age of 18 or mature outlook, with completion of Year 12 or equivalent
  • Openness to engaging in collaborative learning, and assessment preparation activities, with peers, including via video conferencing. Support is provided to help students participate in this way.
