Overview
The Bachelor of Engineering Technology is a versatile degree with options to major in traditional engineering disciplines or pursue a career as an aircraft maintenance engineer through completion of the aircraft maintenance (avionics) major. Choosing the civil, electrical or mechanical majors allows you to build in-depth knowledge of engineering concepts and be highly trained in software, simulating modelling and the ability to assist engineers with the technology design and systems management in an engineering project.
The Bachelor of Engineering Technology is designed to develop your skills and enable you to combine an understanding of engineering concepts with modern technology. Choose between major options, allowing you to pursue a career as an Engineering Technologist in traditional engineering disciplines or an aircraft maintenance engineer.
If you choose to study the civil, electrical or mechanical majors, your education and training will equip you with the skills to innovatively apply, modify and adapt engineering practices to meet engineering challenges and problems for communities, society and the environment. Tailor your course by choosing from a wide range of streams to suit your interests and career goals. View the majors and minors section below for more information on the streams contained within each major.
The course utilises exciting technologies and has a project-based focus. You can enjoy a hands-on learning experience and have the ability to study on-campus in a non-traditional format or by online study.
You will have the opportunity to engage with practising engineers, work on industry-sponsored projects and access industry-based scholarship offered by some of Australia's leading companies. Nine weeks of industry placement during the course also allows you to apply your skills and increase your employability by gaining on-the-job experience.
If you are interested in the aircraft maintenance (avionics) major, you will benefit from our partnership with Aviation Australia and an accelerated pathway to reach Licence Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (LAME) status in three years, usually requiring five years.
The first two years of the course would cover all the competencies of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approved Aviation Australia Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Avionics or Mechanical) and foundations of professional engineering. You will study on-campus in the Aviation Australia Brisbane campus for the first 1.5 years and, upon completion, have the option to study the remainder of your course on campus at Rockhampton. Upon completion of the first 1.5 years, students will be awarded the EASA-approved Aviation Australia Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Avionics or Mechanical).
