Professional placements are a vital step from study to employment for many CQUniversity students. Students with disability and caring responsibilities contribute valuable skills and insights, though they may also face additional challenges.

Inclusive Placement Assistance helps remove those challenges, ensuring students with disability can complete their placements with dignity, confidence, and the support they need to succeed.

The Challenge

At CQUniversity, nearly 10% of students identify as living with disability. For these students, as well as those managing illness, medical or mental health conditions, placements often come with added costs that aren’t covered elsewhere. These may include transport to unfamiliar locations, accessible accommodation, assistive technology, medical expenses, or reduced capacity to work during unpaid placement hours. 

Without support, some students are forced to delay their placement, reduce their study load, or step away from their degree altogether. It’s not ability that stands in the way, it’s access.

The Solution

Inclusive Placement Assistance bursaries provide targeted financial support for students with a disability, as well as those with caring responsibilities, to complete compulsory work placements. This support allows them to focus on learning, gaining professional experience, and moving closer to graduation.

Funds raised through the CQUniCares Appeal will help provide bursaries that can support costs such as:

• Accessible or additional transport requirements
• Suitable temporary accommodation during placement
• Assistive technology or specialised equipment
• Increased living or medical expenses
• Other costs that arise during placement

These payments are about equity and investment in students’ strengths, supporting students with disability to participate fully and succeed in their studies and placements.
