The CQUniCares Accommodation Scholarship assists students from regional and remote Australia, low socio-economic status (SES) backgrounds, and Indigenous persons with expenses associated with relocating to Mackay Canefield College or Rockhampton Capricornia College for the purpose of undertaking internal studies at CQUniversity. 

To be eligible to receive the CQUniCares Accommodation Scholarship successful applicants must:

  • Be identified as living in regional and remote Australia, low socio-economic status (SES) backgrounds, and Indigenous persons as at the time of initial enrolment with CQUniversity
  • Be enrolled or intending to enrol in an undergraduate course of study in Term 1, 2024:
    • Bachelor
    • Associate Degree
    • Advanced Diploma (Higher Education)
    • Diploma (Higher Education)
  • Be relocating to live on-campus at Mackay or Rockhampton
  • Be studying with a minimum term study load of 12 credit points or more
  • Be enrolled at Census date in Term 1, 2024
  • Be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or holder of an Australian Permanent Visa*
  • Not have received or currently in receipt of a CQUniversity Scholarship within the current term

* Must have a permanent home address in Australia

Applicants are required to provide a 500-word personal statement addressing the following question:

How would a CQUniCares Accommodation Scholarship assist with your studies?

As a scholarship recipient, you may be asked to participate in a feedback survey. You may also be approached to assist with promoting the CQUniversity Scholarships program by sharing your experiences as a recipient through media or invited to attend events such as Orientation or Open Day.

Payment of scholarship

Payment of accommodation will be made directly to the CQUniversity Student Residential College on behalf of the successful applicant.
The scholarship will include:

Mackay:

  • Application Fee = $100 new students or $50 returning students per term
  • Facilities Levy = $295 per term
  • 15 weeks accommodation per term (Term 1 and 2 only – does not include vacation week

Mackay Canefield College = average of $266 pw x 30 weeks = $7,980

Rockhampton:

Payment of accommodation will be made directly to the CQUniversity Student Residential College on behalf of the successful applicant. The scholarship will include:

  1. Application Fee = $100 new students or $50 returning students per term
  2. Facilities Levy = $295 per term
  3. 15 weeks accommodation per term (Term 1 and 2 only – does not include vacation weeks)
  4. Meals at Rockhampton Capricornia College

Rockhampton Capricornia College = average of $350 pw x 30 weeks = $10,500

This scholarship cannot be amended, transferred, or redeemed for cash. This scholarship does not include linen or any other fees or charges issued by Canefield College.

Ongoing Eligibility

In addition to the eligibility requirements, the successful applicant must:

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 4.0 each term
  • Remain enrolled in the course as of Census date in Term 1, 2024 and Term 2, 2024
  • Continue to reside primarily on-campus at the CQUniversity Student Residential College

Complete a HEPPP-Funded Scholarship Online Application Form, ensuring all supporting documentation is completed and attached as outlined here:

  • For Current students (applicants who already have a Student ID number) apply through MyCQU. You will need to log in with your student details. Navigate to Support on the left panel, select Student Forms and Search HEPPP-Funded Scholarships Application Form.
  • For Future students (applicants who have applied or are intending to apply to study at CQUniversity but not yet received or accepted an offer) apply now.

Complete applications must be received by 10 am AEST on the closing date. Please ensure all supporting documents are attached to the application as incomplete applications will not be considered.

As per the Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (HEPPP) Funding requirements, the funds provided as part of this program are directed – exclusively - towards students from regional and remote Australia (as defined by ASGS), low socio-economic status (SES) backgrounds (as defined by SEIFA), and Indigenous persons.    As there are a limited number of scholarships available, all scholarships may be exhausted prior to the advertised closing date.    All requests for further information to support applications will be sent to the CQUniversity student email account.    Failure to supply further information will deem the application incomplete and will not be considered. Students will be notified of the outcome of their application via their student email accounts only. Decisions are final.
