Dare to be Deadly Accommodation Scholarship (ISSP-Funded)
A D2BD Scholarship will be awarded on the basis that the applicant meets the Indigenous Student Assistance Grants (Special Grants) Notifiable Instrument 2018.
To be eligible for a Dare to Be Deadly scholarship applicants should provide proof that they:
- Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and provide Confirmation of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander Identity or Cultural Reference documents as detailed under Supporting Documents below.
- Preference is given to students from a remote or regional area.
- Can demonstrate low personal/family income or are identified using Australian Bureau of Statistics as living in a low-socio economic area
- Satisfactory completion of at least 50% of the units studied in the previous term of study.
- Be enrolled or intending to enrol in a course of study in Term 2, 2024:
- STEPS
- Bachelor
- Bachelor Honours
- Associate Degree
- Advanced Diploma (Higher Education)
- Diploma (Higher Education)
- Postgraduate (Coursework)
- Be enrolled at Census date in Term 2, 2024
- Be relocating to live on-campus at Rockhampton or Mackay
Students will be ineligible if they:
- Have already completed the requirements of a course of study (with any provider) regarded to be equivalent to or higher than a bachelor's award, unless such award is a prerequisite to your current undergraduate course of study.
- Are in receipt of a Centrelink Relocation Scholarship or Residential Costs Option, Centrelink Start-Up Scholarship or Loan.
Have received or currently in receipt of a CQUniversity Scholarship within the current term.

All requests for further information to support applications will be sent to the CQUniversity student email account. Failure to supply further information will deem the application incomplete and will not be considered.
As a scholarship recipient, you may be asked to participate in a feedback survey. You may also be approached to assist with promoting the CQUniversity Scholarships program by sharing your experiences as a recipient through media or invited to attend events such as Orientation or Open Day.

Declaration of receiving Centrelink Loans or Scholarships
Applicants who have received a Commonwealth Scholarship or Indigenous Commonwealth Scholarship at another institution must declare this at the time of application.
Applicants who are receiving a Centrelink Student Start Up Loan, Centrelink Relocation Scholarship or Residential Costs Option must declare this at the time of application.
Failure to declare this may result in your scholarship being withdrawn and any paid monies being reclaimed.
Payment of scholarship
Off-Campus:
- $1,000 Once-Off Payment
Applicants are required to provide evidence in the form of either an invoice, proof of purchase, or rental statement to confirm payments for reimbursement.
Mackay:
Payment of accommodation will be made directly to the CQUniversity Student Residential College on behalf of the successful applicant. The scholarship will include:
- Application Fee
- Facilities Levy
- 15 weeks accommodation per term (Term 2 only – does not include vacation week
Mackay Canefield College = average of $266 pw x 15 weeks = $3,990
This scholarship cannot be amended, transferred, or redeemed for cash. This scholarship does not include linen or any other fees or charges issued by Canefield College.
Rockhampton:
Payment of accommodation will be made directly to the CQUniversity Student Residential College on behalf of the successful applicant. The scholarship will include:
- Application Fee
- Facilities Levy
- 15 weeks accommodation per term (Term 2 only – does not include vacation weeks)
- Meals at Rockhampton Capricornia College
Rockhampton Capricornia College = average of $350 pw x 15 weeks = $5,250
This scholarship cannot be amended, transferred, or redeemed for cash. This scholarship does not include linen or any other fees or charges issued by Rockhampton Capricornia College.
Ongoing Eligibility
In addition to the eligibility requirements, the successful applicant must:
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 4.0 each term
- Remain enrolled in the course as of Census date in Term 2, 2024
Applications must include all necessary supporting documents. Incomplete applications cannot be considered. Applicants will need to supply the following supporting documentation:
- Written submission

To apply for a ISSP-Funded Scholarship:
Complete a ISSP-Funded Scholarship Online Application Form, ensuring all supporting documentation is completed and attached as outlined here:
- For Current students (applicants who already have a Student ID number) apply through MyCQU. You will need to log in with your student details. Navigate to Support on the left panel, select Student Forms and Search ISSP-Funded Scholarships Application Form.
- For Future students (applicants who have applied or are intending to apply to study at CQUniversity but not yet received or accepted an offer) apply now.
Complete applications must be received by 10 am AEST on the closing date. Please ensure all supporting documents are attached to the application as incomplete applications will not be considered.
Students will be notified of the outcome of their application via their student email accounts only. Dare to be Deadly Scholarships are prioritised towards the support of Indigenous students who are financially disadvantaged and/or from remote and regional areas.
