TAFE course provides mature-aged student with career progression opportunity
From cane farmer to boilermaker – Anthony Azzopardi is now completing a CQU TAFE course to add 'project manager' to his repertoire.
"I was a cane farmer until I turned 32 and' in that time' I completed my trade as a boilermaker'" Anthony explained.
"I then became a structural supervisor and have worked in supervision type roles and safety roles."
Anthony is now completing a Certificate IV in Project Management Practice with CQUniversity' while also working full-time in Health and Safety.
"I needed to move up the ladder and enrolling in this course was the way to do it'" Anthony said.
"I am not getting younger' and boilermaking is hard on the body."
While the course is delivered online' Anthony said he used the Mackay campus as a base.
"The fact there is a campus in Mackay in case I needed resources/help is useful'" he said.
"Once I finish this course' I am hoping it opens up more career options for me."
