Generous gifts give hope for CQUniCares Appeal
CQUniversity’s community has rallied around life-changing causes, raising nearly $30,000 in the annual CQUniCares Appeal.
Across one big week, contributions rolled in for student success scholarships, the U-BEACH Project funding specialist beach mobility equipment, and Indigenous Sea Ranger Education at CQU’s Coastal Marine Ecosystems Research Centre.
Francois Gallais is CQUniversity’s Deputy Director Philanthropy, and thanked more than 130 generous staff, alumni and community supporters for digging deep.
“Right across our CQUniversity communities we see the need for support, to help people grow, connect and thrive,” Mr Gallais said.
“Our education, training and research projects deliver that support in countless ways, and the CQUniCares Appeal is an annual opportunity to grow that impact.
“In our tenth year, the generosity of donors is a heartwarming reminder of how the work is valued.”
Donors connected with the campaign via social media, news coverage, and alumni and industry networks, and were able to choose the initiative their contribution supported.
Mr Gallais said it was no surprise that CQUniCares Student Success Scholarships, awarded to students facing financial hardship, attracted the most generous support.
“It’s a great privilege of working for CQUniversity, that we can target support to help students can overcome challenges, and achieve their study goals, and their career dreams,” he said.
Across the campaign, past scholarship recipients shared how the crucial financial support made the difference in pursuing vital careers in nursing, psychology, law, and allied health – helping fill skills shortages, and raising aspirations for their families and friends.
CQUniversity has recently been ranked number 3 in the world (from 1,261 participating institutions) in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for initiatives to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10, Reduced Inequalities.
In 2025, CQUniversity has already distributed over 160 student scholarships made possible by donations and philanthropic partnerships – and funds raised in the CQUniCares Appeal will create new scholarships for 2026.
While the Appeal has concluded, community-minded people and organisations can support CQUniversity initiatives at any time, and gifts of $2 are tax deductible.
