Peta Somers hopes that CQUniversity’s Diploma of Nursing course will one day help her finalise a dream of getting into the field of forensic nursing so she can help victims of sexual violence.

The Bundaberg mother-of-two is eagerly looking forward to starting her Diploma of Nursing at CQUni’s Bundaberg campus in February.

“I’ve lived in Bundaberg for about 20 years and originally I was enrolled in Social Work, but I found that with two young kids the study was too challenging, so I transferred over to the Diploma of Nursing,” she said.

“I’ve always wanted to get into the medical field and help people to create better lives for themselves.

“Ideally I’d like to get into forensic nursing and help victims of sexual assault. I’ve always had an interest in criminology and the medical field.”

She said she was confident that with the support of her husband and in-laws that she would be able to balance her studies with her parental responsibilities.

“Because I’m doing the course mixed mode, I’ll be able to attend classes when I need to and then do the study at home, so I can still be with the kids,” she said.

New and prospective students who plan on studying the Master of Mechanical Engineering at CQUniversity Rockhampton this year may be eligible to apply for a Destination Australia scholarship, valued at $15 000 per year of study. For more information, visit
