The Capricorn Coast Writers Festival is set to become a permanent fixture on Central Queensland’s cultural calendar after organisers and attendees both declared the inaugural event an overwhelming success.
Hundreds of readers, writers and creatives from across the country made the pilgrimage to Yeppoon, with individual ticket sales topping 450 over the two days (31 May – 2 June).
And it’s hardly surprising given the line-up of Australian literary talent on hand to share their wisdom including David Hunt (Girt and True Girt), Anna Daniels (Girl in Between) and Alli Sinclair (The Cinema at Starlight Creek) as well as CQUniversity's own Creative Arts Research Training Academy (CARTA).
Professor Donna Lee Brien, who joined CARTA colleagues Dr Liz Ellison and Professor Craig Batty to present workshops on Life Writing and Screen Writing, praised CQUni for getting behind the event as a key sponsor.
“This allowed us to run two fantastic workshops which ended up selling out and we are already planning our pitch for the next festival. I can’t recommend it highly enough!” she said.
The Capricorn Coast Writers Festival will return in 2021.
