Taylor, Pippa and Simone have new career outlook thanks to CQUni Beauty courses

Pippa Collins, Simone Stark and Taylor Goodman-Jones are thriving in their chosen careers thanks to CQUniversity's Beauty courses.

Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder for three recent CQUniversity graduates, who have turned their dreams of working in the beauty therapy industry into reality.

Diploma of Beauty Therapy students - Taylor Goodman-Jones and Simone Stark of Gladstone are running their own salons, while Certificate III in Beauty Services student Pippa Collins of Rockhampton, is quickly rising to new heights as a trainee at a local salon.

“I was interested in beauty for as long as I can remember. I did dancing as child and loved putting on make-up for performances and I knew I wanted to work in a job where I could help people,” Taylor said.

“The training at CQUni was good – the teaching staff are wonderful and the small class sizes makes it feel like a family.

“I recently started my own business – Taylor Jane MUA. I am operating from a beauty room in Tannum Sands. I feel as though the training and support I received from my teachers and peers really helped me with the push to start my own business.”

Simone said she enrolled in the Diploma because she wanted to expand the delivery of services at her salon, Naturally SAS Hair & Beauty.

“The course will help me expand my list of services,” she said.

“I’m already a qualified hairdresser with 20 years’ experience and I love my work and am excited to expand upon my beauty knowledge.

“I’ve also been renovating my current space, which has recently doubled in size.”

Pippa was studying a Bachelor of Medical Science course at CQUni when she decided that her real passion was in beauty therapy.

“I’m currently working at Revenge Hair and Beauty as a trainee beauty therapist,” she said.

“The training I received at CQUni has helped me prepare for working in the industry through its simulated salon experience where we were able to interact with clients.”

All three agreed that studying Beauty Therapy was a rewarding experience.

“Be prepared to commit to your studies and for a lot of hard work – that being said, it is such a rewarding feeling to have a client leave happy and feeling amazing after visiting your salon,” Pippa said.

Simone encouraged anyone with an interest in beauty to follow their dreams: “(The course) is a great stepping stone into the beauty industry,” she said.

Taylor said: “If you’re considering it just do it. There is nothing to lose from following your passion. As the saying goes – ‘if you love what you’re doing you will never work a day in your life’.”
