Daniel Gill may be a mild-mannered Secondary Teaching student and part-time bar tender but he and his band of touch footy brothers have just pulled off their third consecutive year of triumphs in the UniSport Nationals.
The Rockhampton-based players went through the early competition rounds undefeated and then triumphed 12-11 in a nail-biting extra time win over QUT at the Division 1 event, held at the Gold Coast this week.
"It was really backs to the wall as we were down a couple of points with only a few minutes left, and injuries to all but seven players had robbed us of the chance to bring on subs, while QUT were closer to full strength, with plenty of subs," says Daniel, who captains the team.
"I think I will be back for one more year with this great team for the 2020 competition. They all showed plenty of heart right through the UniSport Nationals event."
Meanwhile, CQUni's Men's Football team finished in ninth place due to early-round losses but ended on a winning note with a 3-2 victory.
And CQUni squash player Joshua Stack-Masula made it through the quarter-finals of his UniSports competition.
