First-year student impressed with CQUni experience in WA

Published:18 June 2019

CQUniversity Perth's Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) student Kalani Ingram is chasing her career goals after completing high school.

She’s the captain of her community football team, but when’s she’s not living and breathing women’s football, 18-year-old Western Australian Kalani Ingram is paving her way for a career in the safety industry.

Fresh out of high school, Kalani has partnered with CQUniversity Perth to help her achieve her career goals.

“After hearing lots about the Occupational Health and Safety pathway through friends and family, I became increasingly interested,” Kalani explained.

“Personally, I have always enjoyed helping people, and the safety industry helps and saves many.”
Kalani said she chose CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) as it was one of the only Western Australian universities to offer an OHS pathway.

“I applied and was pleased to get a prompt acceptance. From there, I attended the orientation of the Perth campus and made the choice that CQUni was perfect for me.

“I have a great interest in the OHS course, as I feel so passionate about people returning home from work in the same, if not better state than they left in.”

Although an OHS career is firmly in her sights, for now, Kalani is looking forward to enjoying her university life.

“Being a first-year student, and only 18 years young, my aspirations are very broad. For now, I am just aiming for the best university experience possible and then hopefully some travel and adventure once I have completed my degree.”

Only with CQUni for a short time, her first impressions of the Perth campus has been fantastic.

“The CQU Perth campus is very convenient in location. Being right in the heart of Perth city, it makes public transport travel very easy and seamless. Following this, the campus facilities are very clean, friendly and easy to navigate.”

While Kalani is enrolled for on-campus study at CQUniversity’s Perth campus, living 75 kilometres away from the Perth CBD, makes full-time attendance difficult at times.

However, CQUniversity’s state-of-the-art online learning facilities makes it easy for Kalani to engage in her courses from wherever she is.

“With the fantastic Zoom call technology, it’s very easy to dial into lectures from virtually anywhere.”

CQUniversity offers a range of courses both on campus in Perth and online.

Conveniently located a few minutes away from Perth Underground Station and Elizabeth Quay station, CQUniversity Perth is a modern campus offering great facilities for students studying preparatory, bachelor and postgraduate degrees.

CQUniversity students in regional Western Australia are also supported by study hubs in Busselton, Geraldton, Broome and Karratha.
