CQUni gears up for WorldSkills regional competitions in Gladstone and Rockhampton
Published:11 September 2019
CQUniversity will host the region’s top emerging apprentices for a series of WorldSkills Regional competitions in Gladstone and Rockhampton.
The events, which will be held on various dates from 17 September to 9 October, will see apprentices and tradespeople test their skills and knowledge in the areas of electrical installation, electrical control, fitting, turning, automotive mechanical, metal fabrication and heavy vehicle mechanics.
CQUni’s Gladstone campus will host competitions across the electrical installation, electrical control, metal fabrication and fitting and turning trades, while the automotive and heavy vehicle mechanical events will be held at the Rockhampton City Campus.
The competitors will represent some of CQ’s premier industries and employers and highlight the quality of CQUni TAFE training.
In previous years, some CQUni-trained apprentices have gone on to claim gold medals in the WorldSkills National competitions, including Gladstone Ports Corporation electrician Anthony Cobb, who won the electrical installation category in Melbourne in 2018. Anthony recently represented Australia in his category at the WorldSkills International event in Kazan, Russia.
The winners of the Gladstone competitions will be revealed at a special presentation at the Gladstone Ports Corporation Social Club on 17 October.
CQUni has already hosted a WorldSkills Regional competition this year at the Mackay City Campus in August with Courtney Muscat claiming the gold medal in the Hairdressing category.
