Gimuy Walubara Yidinji Elder and CQUniversity Associate Professor Henrietta Marrie is now classed as one of Queensland’s greats.
Prof Marrie was presented with a Queensland Greats Award by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk at a special ceremony at Brisbane’s Queensland Art Gallery last week.
Prof Marrie said receiving the award was the icing on the cake of a wonderful 12 months.
“I’ve known about this for a couple of weeks but I had to keep it under wraps,” Prof Marrie said of the accolade.
“It gives me goosebumps even just thinking about it,” she said.
“As a Queenslander and as a Gimuy Walubara Yidinji woman I am honoured to receive such a prestigious award. It means a lot to represent women in education and heritage, to change the attitudes and perceptions of corporate and business sector and universities. I hope my achievements will not only inspire others but encourage institutions and corporates to recognise women in mid and high level management.”
Prof Marrie was one of only five to receive the prestigious award which comes after she was recognised with an Order of Australia earlier this year.
