CQUniversity’s Cairns-based Associate Professor Henrietta Marrie officially became a Member of the Order of Australia in the General Division (AM) at an award presentation by the Queensland Governor on Monday (30 April).

While Ms Marrie earned the plaudit on Australia Day earlier this year, she was officially presented with her honour at a special ceremony in Townsville this week.

The Yidinji woman was the first Aboriginal Australian appointed full-time to work with the United Nations (last decade) and is now a researcher based at CQUni's Office of Indigenous Engagement and is focusing on plans for the establishment of a First Peoples Think Tank - a national and global centre of excellence - to operate out of CQUniversity.

Ms Marrie expressed great pride in officially receiving her AM for services to Indigenous culture, intellectual property rights and education.
