The Rockhampton Men's Shed outlined its proposed expansion at CQUniversity Rockhampton on 14 September.

CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Scott Bowman yesterday spoke at the presentation and launch of the Rockhampton Men’s Shed latest proposed project, and biggest challenge to date - to build three larger sheds on land at the Rockhampton campus.

During the announcement, attended by Prof Bowman, Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga and representatives from Rockhampton Regional Council and various community groups, The Rockhampton Men's Shed saidrevealed it is looking to expand their activities, with an ambitious $450,000 plan to build a new series of sheds at the CQUniversity Rockhampton North Campus, to cater for the growing community needs well into the future.

The group has been located at CQUniversity since 2014, but has now reached capacity and is seeking funds for the project.

They have so far received monetary support from the Iwasaki Foundation and the Frenchville Sports Club which has helped purchase equipment, now waiting to be housed in the proposed new buildings.

The Rockhampton Men's Shed is a gathering place for retirees who want to continue to put their decades of skills to use by building much-needed items for the local community - and forge new bonds of friendship.  The Shed is also “a place to just relax have a cuppa and get that feeling of usefulness and being part of something that gives what you want to achieve”.

The Rockhampton Men's Shed group said at the launch it was seeking business’ support, either monetary or in-kind, as well as letters in support of their application to the state government for grant funding for the project.

Prof Scott Bowman said the Rockhampton Men's Shed had the support of CQUniversity and that CQUni was pleased to be involved with a community group such as the Rockhampton Men’s Shed and be a part of the value it added to the whole community.
