Several CQUniversity representatives have been selected as baton bearers in the 2018 Commonwealh Games Queen's Baton Relay.

CQUniversity will be well-represented in the field of official baton bearers for the 2018 Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton Relay, with five people including an academic, a former Council member and a CQUni-trained electrician being selected for the prestigious honour.

The list of baton bearers was released recently and included researcher and one of the key leaders of the 10,000 Steps program, Prof Corneel Vandelanotte.

Also selected was alumnus and former CQUniversity Council member Tim Griffin, as well as current Exercise and Sports Science student Jackson Hughes.

Jackson was the overall CQUniversity Male Team Captain for the Northern University Games which the Rockhampton campus hosted back in July of 2015. He has also been CQUniversity’s Mens Touch Team Captain in 2016, 2016 and 2017, and the team was undefeated during the entirety of the Australian University Games before they took out the gold medal. He was also a finalist in the Capricornia Region’s 2017 Australian Leadership Excellence Awards (ALEAs).

CQUni BROLGA Program participant Antonio Mann (son of Indigenous CQUni Connect Officer Malcolm Mann) will be a baton bearer, as will CQUni-trained electrician and 2015 Central Queensland Training Awards Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year, Dion Schloss.
