A CQUni scholarship to attend the world’s biggest conference for social innovation in education has seen a huge response from staff and students, with 10 lucky changemakers securing their spots at this year’s Ashoka U Exchange.

A total of 119 people applied for 10 scholarships, with five going to staff and five to students.

Held in Boston, Massachusetts from 5-7 April, 2018, the international conference allows university leaders, academics and students to learn and share leading practices for embedding social innovation in higher education.

Valued at approximately $4 000 each, the scholarships include all flights, accommodation and tickets to the prestigious gathering.

The successful scholarship applicants are:

Dr Olav Muurlink, Senior Lecturer in Social Innovation, Brisbane

Trixie James, STEPS Lecturer, Bundaberg

Shirley Ledger, Social Work Lecturer and PhD student, Brisbane

Laura Baker, Head of Course (UG) Management and Organisational Behaviour, Mackay

Jordan Mogg, Manager of Financial Accounting, Rockhampton

Leslie Lowe, Bachelor of Aviation and iChange presenter, Bundaberg

Urusha Kansakar, Master of Professional Accounting and iChange presenter, Melbourne

Charmaine Kuwana, Graduate Diploma of Mental Health Nursing, Yanchep WA

David Graham, Bachelor of Education distance student, Toogoom

Chizoma Okoro, Master of Arts student, Brisbane

The 2018 event builds on CQUni’s 2017 attendance, when five student scholarships were offered – and due to overwhelming interest, a total of 11 students were selected to attend the event in Miami, Florida.

That event saw CQUniversity officially inducted as an Ashoka U Changemaker Campus, one of just 40 institutions globally committed to leadership in social innovation.

This year, CQUniversity leadership and Office of Social Innovation team members will also be attending the Ashoka U Exchange.

Expect to see plenty of social media activity around CQUniversity’s Ashoka U Exchange participation – keep an eye on the hashtags #ashokau and #2018exchange during the event, and stay tuned for more news and profiles as our delegates prepare, and share their experiences.
