CQUniversity Adelaide recently helped stage an inspirational workshop by legendary social innovator Michael Ableman, who has established urban farms that provide local food and employment in America's struggling suburbs.
Mr Ableman uses these urban farms to deliver physical and mental health services to the urban poor, in parts of the cities experiencing low socio-economic conditions.
Associate Vice-Chancellor (South Australia), Professor Drew Dawson says the workshop was sponsored as a joint initiative between CQUniversity and the South Australian Government.
"This social innovation* activity was a truly inspirational workshop for around 30 people," Professor Dawson says.
"This event kick-started the CQUniversity involvement and sponsorship of the South Australian Urban Food Network, a new Private Public Partnership (PPP) that will be attempting similar projects here in Adelaide and regions over the next few years."
* CQUniversity has been officially inducted as an Ashoka U Changemaker Campus - making it the first university in Australia to be granted the accreditation. Ashoka U is an initiative of Ashoka, the world’s largest network of social entrepreneurs, and builds on Ashoka’s vision for a world where everyone is a Changemaker.
