Get your health in check with free interactive session in Mackay

Published:14 September 2015

CQUniversity’s Nina Sandral and Natural by Nature owner Sally Le Coz will present an information session on physical activity and healthy foods this week (Wednesday).

Eating well and exercising can be a huge challenge for families but several Mackay health experts are teaming up to show how a few small changes can go a long way.

CQUniversity Fitness lecturer and Exercise Physiologist Nina Sandral will join owner/operator of organic produce store Natural by Nature, Sally Le Coz and Wholefoods Chef and Nutritionist, Asja Svilans to share advice on the easiest ways to keep your health in check.

Sponsored by Medicare Local and CQUniversity, the free, interactive session will look at incorporating physical activity into your daily schedule and simple, healthy food ideas for the family (and the lunchbox).

Nina and Sally are both working mums with school-aged children and they say that getting the right balance is tricky but the results are worth it.

“I think it’s important that people know that physical activity or exercise doesn’t have to be an organised or uncomfortable experience,” Nina said.

“Current guidelines recommend 30 minutes of activity a day to achieve health benefits – everyone can do it and in any environment!”

Sally and Asja will demonstrate simple ways to include more variety of foods into your diet and will also compare traditional brands and organic products.

Sally said she had seen an increase in the number of people who were looking for more organic, natural products to feed their family. The interest in fresh, local and organic produce has seen Natural by Nature open a new and bigger store at Fourways on Nebo Road to cater for this increase.

Nina added that it was an exciting time for Mackay and the surrounding areas with more people recognising the importance of health and fitness.

“More information is becoming readily available locally for people to get new ideas and information to improve their health and fitness,” she said.

“At CQUniversity, we offer the Certificate III & IV in Fitness as well as the Diploma to train qualified fitness professionals and by next year we will be delivering the Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science right here in Mackay.”

CQUniversity is also sponsoring the first Mackay Fitness Expo at the Mackay Entertainment and Convention Centre (MECC) on September 26, 2015.
