Budding songwriters welcome at free workshop in Cairns

CQUniversity Australia's Music and Theatre program is partnering with renowned songwriting coach Clive Harrison to host a free songwriting workshop in Cairns on Wednesday, October 7.

The workshop will be held at CQUniversity Cairns (Level 3 Cairns Square, corner Abbot and Shields streets) from 4pm-6.30pm, giving songwriters an opportunity to workshop their material and get advice from one of Australia's greats.

CQUni Senior Lecturer Dr David Cashman says that Clive is a Sydney-based songwriter, composer, and bass player. He is a former president of the Australian Guild of Screen Composers.

"Clive will discuss his approach to songwriting, recount his experience, and will workshop songs submitted by local songwriters," Dr Cashman says.

"Clive has recorded and written for a long list of rock royalty in Australia and overseas including Chick Corea, the Little River Band, Jon English, Darryl Braithwaite, Split Enz, Dale Barlow, Kerrie Biddel, Ricky May, Eric Clapton, John Williamson, Marcia Hines and Tim Finn. He’s recently published Songwriting Labyrinth, a textbook on songwriting."
