Two third-year Bachelor of Oral Health students completed a voluntary overseas clinical placement in Vanuatu in mid-June.
Ashleigh Lilly and Ruby Wittkopp presented oral health education sessions at schools and provided clinical services to patients on Malekula Island in Vanuatu.
Discipline Lead for Oral Health, Associate Professor Leonie Short said the students paid for their own trip and found the whole experience very rewarding.
Trip organiser Christine Southall said it was a pleasure to have the CQUniversity students on the trip.
“The team have been personally invited back next year by Dr Mackenzie, the resident dentist at Norsup Hospital, and Ephraime Evena, the main organiser of the expedition. So this speaks volumes for the impact they have left on the island.”
