The PUA50120 Diploma of Public Safety (Emergency Management) is designed for personnel undertaking emergency management responsibilities at an incident, emergency or disaster. This will include the coordination of resources, personnel and entities as well as the coordination of activities with other organisations.

The role of personnel is to assist in the management for an incident, emergency or disaster. Personnel undertaking emergency management responsibilities may work in multi-organisational teams.

This qualification includes the units of competency required by personnel for performing a range of activities such as planning and the coordination of activities for an incident, emergency or disaster. This supports prevention of, preparedness for, response to and recovery from such events.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

This program is delivered online via the CQUniversity Moodle platform. Training is supported through a blend of online learning materials, tutorials, guided activities and reflection, allowing students to build and apply their emergency management knowledge throughout the course.

Students will take part in a mandatory 10-week virtual Emergency Operations Centre exercise, with one 2-hour evening session each week, designed to simulate real-world emergency management situations.

Requirements

Required:

Completion of the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy, numeracy and digital literacy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course.

Candidates may enter the qualification through a number of entry points demonstrating potential to undertake vocational education and training at this qualification level.

Digital Literacy - The student will need to have access to the internet and the ability to:

  • use search engines to locate information online
  • navigate websites and online learning platforms
  • download and upload documents
  • manage files and folders on a computer, including moving, copying, renaming and organising documents
  • type, format and edit documents in Microsoft Word
  • work with tables and basic document formatting
  • manage text, including cutting, copying and pasting content

Highly recommended - Students participating in the virtual Emergency Operations Centre exercise are also recommended to have access to two screens during exercise sessions. This will allow students to view the WebEOC platform, course materials, scenario information and the online classroom at the same time, supporting a more effective and practical exercise experience.

Fees & Scholarships

Fee for Service/Full Fee occurs when the full tuition fee is charged to students. This may occur when the course is not included in government subsidy program/s or the student is not eligible for a government subsidy. These students are obligated to cover the entire cost.
