Overview
This qualification provides students with training in the technical, creative and conceptual skills necessary to become a professional artist or designer. Students can select from the studio areas of painting or printmaking as they work to develop their professional skills and knowledge in the visual arts arena. Visual artists may work in their own practice, or in a wide range of contexts across the arts, government, community or commercial organisations.

The Diploma of Visual Arts has been designed for flexible online study, giving you the opportunity to learn through a range of interactive online learning and teaching sessions through our learning platform Moodle. As part of the course, you will choose a specialisation in either Painting or Printmaking. To complete the Diploma, you will undertake 5 core units, 10 elective units (including 2 units within your chosen specialisation), for a total of 15 units.
Students can enrol either full-time or part-time, depending on your schedule. Full-time (1 year) students will study two units at a time, dedicating a minimum 26 hours per week to their coursework. Part-time (2 years) students will complete one unit at a time, with an expected commitment of approximately 16 hours per week.

This course has no residential schools.
Requirements
To help us understand how best to support you, you’ll need to complete the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy, numeracy and digital literacy assessments to progress your application. Alternatively, completion of an equal or higher level course may exempt you from this testing.
Individuals must provide evidence of their technical and organisational skills to conceptualise and create works in selected medium. Skills and knowledge may have been acquired through experience in creative practice or formal study.
Evidence of Formal Study
Entry to this qualification is open to applicants who have completed either a Certificate III in Visual Arts (CUA31125, CUA31120, CUA31115) or a Certificate IV in Visual Arts (CUA41320, CUA41315). Submission of your certified copy of qualification and/or USI transcript is required within your application.

Evidence of Creative Practice
Students applying for admission into this qualification must provide a portfolio of examples of own work. Students are expected to have a basic knowledge of painting or printmaking (relevant to specialisation). The folio must consist of five (5) previous artworks or drawings.
The folio must address the following:
- Original works produced within the last 2 years (your signature and year created must appear on the artworks)
- Folio pieces should centre around traditional media (including at least two images created using your specialisation, e.g. printmaking or painting)
- Development drawings may also be included (to support the five individual artworks)
- Include a brief description of each piece (artwork name, materials and techniques used)
- Photographs or scans of artworks should be used
- Compile your images and text into a document for submission (PDF, Word)
Include in your folio, in no more than 250 words, an explanation of why you wish to study this qualification and how this will help you achieve your career goals.

Fee for Service/ Full Fee
Fee for Service/Full Fee occurs when the full tuition fee is charged to students. This may occur when the course is not included in government subsidy program/s or the student is not eligible for a government subsidy. These students are obligated to cover the entire cost. Co-Contribution and Co-Contribution Concessional Fee
Some government-funded training programs, such as Career Start and Career Boost, require students to contribute to the cost of their education through a co-contribution fee. This fee varies depending on the course and the student's eligibility for a concessional rate. Additional costs, such as uniforms and course resources, may also apply.
