Get the spark started to your career in the electrical trade. CQUniversity Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) offers you the spark to obtain training in the key areas of safety, basic skills, and knowledge. This course is suited to Start TAFE Now (STN) high school students with no previous connection to the electrical industry and who would like to gain foundation skills and knowledge for possible entry into an Electrical apprenticeship. This pre-apprenticeship course covers competencies for a work entry program providing grounding for work in any electrotechnology discipline.

This course has no residential schools.
Requirements
Completion of the bksb (Basic Key Skills Builder) online literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, unless the student has completed an equal or higher level course. Students wishing to complete and receive QCE Points can apply in Year 11 or Year 12.

For high school students you may be eligible for the Queensland Government’s VET in Schools (VETiS) program which is fee-free. Course specific costs may be applicable, an example would be high vis clothes and safety boots for trade courses.

How to apply
Step 1: Get a Unique Student Identifier (USI)
Visit usi.gov.au to create a USI or find an existing one.
Step 2: Prepare your eligibility documentation
So that we can assess your application and eligibility for Government funding options, you’ll need to upload documentation as part of your application. This includes proof of your:
- Queensland Residency and Date of Birth. (e.g. Queensland Driver’s License photo must be of the back and front of the license)
- Australian or New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent residency (e.g. Medicare Card or Birth Certificate)

To fast-track your application, make sure you provide a clear photo showing all the information and upload it with your application.
Step 3: Start TAFE Now Application Documents
Applying via the Start TAFE Now Program you will need to ensure you attached the following documents to your application:
- A signed Start Now Study Authorisation Form
- Letter of recommendation from High School on school letterhead;
- Written statement (max 1-page) outlining the student's career aspirations and how the course will assist in achieving this.

Step 4: Apply Online
To apply, applicants should email the Schools Engagement team (stn@cqu.edu.au) within the noted application period, and include all supporting documentation as identified above.
