Joel Stanley
Meet Joel Stanley, a dedicated Bachelor of Paramedicine student at CQUniversity and a grateful recipient of the Connellan Airways Trust CQUni Cares Scholarship. For Joel, who lives in the remote South Australian town of Coober Pedy, this scholarship has been a crucial lifeline in his journey to serve communities like his own.
Joel's passion for paramedicine was ignited by his volunteer work with St John and the SA Ambulance Service. This hands-on experience in pre-hospital settings solidified his commitment to pursuing a career where he could make a tangible difference, particularly in remote areas often overlooked by healthcare professionals. Beyond his studies, Joel is a pillar of his community, volunteering for the local Mine Rescue Squad and the Country Fire Service.
To continue his degree, Joel was required to complete a five-week practical placement in a remote town in Queensland—a journey of three to four long days' drive from his home. The financial strain of travel, accommodation, and taking unpaid time off work was an immense barrier. “last year, I could not finance the time off to complete the five-week placement.”
Thanks to the support of the Connellan Airways Trust, Joel can now fully focus on his critical placement, gaining the skills he needs to succeed. Looking forward, he plans to graduate in 2027 and build his entire career as a paramedic in country operations, bringing essential services to the communities that need them most.
Joel's story is a powerful example of how donor support can remove obstacles and empower students to achieve their potential. Your generosity helps students like Joel turn their dedication into a lifetime of service.
