The CQUniCares Industry Placement Scholarship is a tailored scholarship that targets students from low Socio-economic backgrounds, living in regional or remote areas, Indigenous students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or students who are living with or caring for someone with a Disability, Illness, Medical or Mental Health Condition undertaking extended unpaid compulsory placements as part of their course requirements. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students with required professional resources, uniforms, living expenses, childcare, transport and accommodation costs incurred during placement.

To be eligible to receive the CQUniCares Industry Placement Scholarship, successful applicants must:

  • as defined under the HEPPP funding eligibility criteria at the time of initial enrolment with CQUniversity, be identified as persons,
    • from low socio-economic backgrounds (as defined by SEIFA)
    • living in regional or remote areas (as defined by ASGS)
    • Indigenous students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
    • living with or caring for someone with a Disability, Illness, Medical or Mental Health Condition
  • be undertaking an unpaid placement in Term 2, 2023 with a minimum duration of 5 weeks (240hours)
  • be enrolled at Census date in Term 2, 2023
  • complete placement in one block, as part of an Undergraduate degree
  • be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or holder of an Australian Permanent Visa*
  • not be receiving or have received a CQUniCares Student Support Scholarship

*Must have a permanent home address in Australia

Applicants are required to:

  1. Complete the application form
  2. provide a 500-word personal statement addressing the question: 
    How would a CQUniCares Industry Placement Scholarship assist with your studies?
  3. Provide a screenshot of placement details confirmed in SONIA (inclusive of student name)

Selection Process

Please note a limited number of scholarships are available, all scholarships may be exhausted prior to the advertised closing date.

Students are assessed based on the eligibility requirements of their application. As per the Higher Education Participation and Partnerships Program (HEPPP) Funding requirements, the funds provided as part of this program are directed – exclusively – towards students from low socio-economic (SES) backgrounds (as defined by SEIFA), persons from regional areas and remote areas (as defined by ASGS), Indigenous persons, people of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and who identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and students who are living with or caring for someone with a Disability, Illness, Medical or Mental Health Condition.

All requests for further information to support applications will be sent to the student email account. Failure to supply further information will deem the application incomplete and will not be considered.

Students will be notified of the outcome of their application via their student email accounts only. Decisions are final.

Payment of Scholarship

The successful applicants are required to enter their current financial institution details (banking details) into their MyCQU account (refer to instructions) for payment to occur.
Payment will be made to the successful applicant in week 6, post-Census date enrolment checks.
Payments will be credited electronically to the successful applicant's nominated bank account.

Additional Information

As a scholarship recipient, you will be asked to participate in a feedback survey. You may also be approached to assist with promoting the CQUniversity Scholarships program by sharing your experiences as a recipient through media or invited to attend events such as Orientation or Open Day.

Applicants will need to supply the following supporting documentation:

1. Personal statement about your upcoming placement and how a scholarship will assist you

2. Screenshot from SONIA showing confirmed placement dates and location

3. Income documents of applicant and/or (partner if partnered) such Centrelink Income Statement and/or 3 x consecutive payslips. It is taken into account that most students will be without income (if not receiving Centrelink) during placement.

Please note: additional documents may be requested if low income is difficult to determine.

  2. If eligible, an application form will be forwarded to your student email
  3. Return form and supporting documentation to scholarships@cqu.edu.au

A Scholarship will only be offered where there is an applicant of sufficient merit. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications as soon as possible.
