Queensland Rural and Remote Area Fund Incorporated

Students from rural and remote backgrounds can face considerable financial barriers that may inhibit or restrict their ability to further their education or training – be it schooling, tertiary education or tafe/vocational training. Challenges may include education/training fees, relocating away from family support structures, placements / internships, the cost of living away from home, and associated expenses such as rental bonds, laptops and textbooks.

The Queensland Rural and Remote Area Fund Incorporated (“QRRAF” / “the Fund”) was established to support education and training opportunities for people from rural and remote Queensland who are attending school, tertiary institutions, TAFE or other training institutions.  Ultimately, the Fund seeks to further benefit rural and remote areas of Queensland by supporting ambitious members of those communities in achieving educational and training goals, with the aim of bringing their skills back to the bush

QRRAF is a registered charity with ACNC and a deductible gift recipient fund. This allows supportive individuals and businesses to donate to the Fund, with any donation of $2.00 or more being tax deductible.

The Fund was established in 2007 at the instigation of Mr Bruce Hood, a Central Queensland farmer and grazier who passed away in 2020. It is now proudly administered by a management committee with the support of Rockhampton businesses, Rees R & Sydney Jones, solicitors and Evans Edwards & Associates, chartered accountants. The late Bruce Hood not only wished to assist needy rural and remote students to better their education but he also had a deep desire that students who are awarded bursaries or scholarships from the Fund provide their skills and training to rural and remote areas of Queensland, to improve services to those areas.
