The lack of productivity in the building and construction industry results from a multitude of factors. This is across both large players around the world as well as many low-productivity small firms. Many contracts are set up in a confrontational framework, which means that disputes and changes to the project specifications are common. Contract a and regulatory framework are complex and, in many countries, there is a high level of informality and sometimes corruption. Consequently, there are several associate research questions including, but not limited to, clear project scope and associated documentation, ethical behaviors, low skill trades being used, and poor management expertise.
