Synopsis

Where do baby mud crabs come from? Despite a well-established commercial mud crab fishery, and the species being a common target for recreational anglers throughout northern Australia, there are big gaps in our knowledge of their reproductive cycle which we need to fill to better manage the resource. This project will investigate the factors affecting the recruitment of juvenile mud crabs to near-shore habitats, and also evaluate the level of connectivity between their scattered populations.
