Synopsis
Among various mechanical, thermal and rechargeable energy storages, lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are widely acceptable due to their high energy density, long lifespan, high efficiency, low self-discharge and not having memory effect.
Some works have been done on Li-ion batteries including its use, strength, power density, electrodes, safety hazards and cost. Research has been under way in the area of non-flammable electrolytes as a pathway to increase safety based on the flammability and volatility of the organic solvents used in the typical electrolyte. Research areas also include extending lifetime, increasing energy density, improving safety, reducing cost, and increasing charging speed. Keeping pace with the increasing demand of LIBs, it is, therefore, necessary to sort out how the internal design and management of LIBs can be made optimum as the way of improving performance and reducing cost, which eventually may lead to open an exclusive way to facilitate the versatile use of Li-ion batteries including electric vehicles more significantly and at a promoting rate as well as reducing the environmental chaos.
