Synopsis

Perceptual Control Theory (PCT) is the foundation of control science which offers a radical new way of understanding individual behaviour and social interactions. PCT can help to build different and more helpful understandings of important concepts such as empowerment, choice, trauma, resilience, psychological distress, wellbeing, self-determination, reward and punishment, and cooperation. PCT has informed clinical innovations such as Method of Levels therapy, patient-led appointment scheduling, patient-perspective care, and the smartphone app MindSurf. It can also be applied to understanding and addressing social interactions such as bullying, parenting, school teaching, and violence. "To what extent are people living the lives they want to live?"
