This research investigates how blockchain technology could be implemented within construction procurement processes for railway infrastructure projects in Australia. It examines the potential relationship between blockchain adoption and sustainable project success, including the opportunities, barriers and implementation considerations relevant to the Australian infrastructure sector.

Why My Research is Important/Impacts

Railway procurement in Australia is fragmented and paper intensive, which makes information hard to verify and sustainability obligations hard to evidence across long supply chains. Blockchain is often proposed as a response, but its adoption in this setting has not been tested. This research examines what drives and prevents adoption, and whether the benefits translate into sustainable project outcomes. The result will be a validated framework that rail authorities and contractors can use to decide where blockchain is worth adopting, and what has to be addressed first.
