Research Details

Thesis Name

Investigating the Internal and External Factors that Support Students from Equity Groups to Build a Positive Student Profile and Experience Success at University.

Thesis Abstract

Foundation education programs support the needs of an “increasingly diverse student body” who are unfamiliar with the higher education (HE) landscape (Larsen, et al., 2020, p. 14). Many of these non-traditional students have equity considerations that require additional supports to assist their engagement and success (Devlin & McKay, 2017).

Why My Research is Important/Impacts

This research will investigate which characteristics of the three (3) dimensional Grit-ability model support students to experience success as they begin their higher education studies. By collecting real-world data from individual students from identified equity groups, other students can learn from these shared experiences to potentially replicate these characteristics to achieve their own success. Enabling educators can also benefit by applying these research findings to design Grit-ability model interventions and pedagogical strategies to further enhance successful student outcomes.
