Expanded free TAFE and apprenticeship training for under 25s welcomed by CQUniversity
Central Queenslanders under the age of 25 looking to start vocational training or an apprenticeship have been urged to take advantage of the Queensland Government's Free TAFE and free apprenticeship training through CQUniversity.
From 1 January 2021' Free TAFE for under 25s and free apprenticeships will only be available at CQUniversity and TAFE Queensland in priority areas.
This program is an extension to the former Free TAFE for Year 12 graduates program which now includes eligibility for young people who are under 25 years of age.
CQUniversity Deputy Vice-President – VET Peter Heilbuth said apprenticeships open many doors to employment for many young people in the CQ region and for most' is a first step on a long and rewarding career.
'This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to undertake free' quality training in many high-demand areas'' Mr Heilbuth said.
To be eligible for the Free TAFE for under 25's' participants must be aged under 25 years at the point of enrolment and not be at school; permanently reside in Queensland; be an Australian citizen' Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant)' temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency' or a New Zealand citizen; not hold' and not be enrolled in' a certificate III or higher-level qualification' not including qualifications completed at school and foundation skills training. Individuals who hold a visa must also ensure their visa subclass is eligible for subsidised training.
To qualify for the Free apprenticeships for under 25s' participants must be under the age of 25; be employed as an apprentice or trainee under a training contract in one of the priority qualifications and; must commence' or be undertaking' your training between 1 January 2021 and 30 September 2022.
