Leah Gastaldon’s passion for helping others stay fighting fit has been bolstered by CQUniversity’s Fitness courses.

The former nurse decided to change careers and pursue a path in exercise and fitness – a decision she says is the best she’s ever made.

“I have always had a passion for helping others and always loved anything health and fitness related,” she said.

“I have a previous background in nursing, however, after having the privilege of staying home with my growing children I decided to change my career path and start my exercise and fitness study journey.

“My purpose is to educate others on the importance of taking care of their health and building a strong and healthy body for ageing and longevity, as well as assisting them to discover the ability to enhance their own self confidence and feel good.”

Leah completed her Certificate III in Fitness at CQU in Bundaberg in 2024, and quickly progressed into the Certificate IV, acquiring that qualification in 2025.

“All the course coordinators and teachers were very helpful and supportive, and the course content was thorough and informative. I felt that I learned a lot from both courses and once completed I felt that I was ready to start my career in fitness,” she said.

Leah’s training supports her role as a personal trainer and fitness instructor at Cityfit Gym in Bundaberg – a role she relishes every day.

“I work with people from all works of life providing services such as, one on one personal training, individuals programming, and small group fitness. My goal and passion is to help others grow in strength and confidence while finding the enjoyment, fun, and consistency of exercise,” she said.

“The training I received at CQU helps me in my career every day. I now have the knowledge base and confidence to create individualised exercise programs, become a fitness instructor of specialised group fitness styles, and work one on one with clients of all ages.

“Studying with CQU and having the support of the wonderful teachers has helped me build the self-confidence to pursue an expansive career in fitness industry.”

And Leah plans to keep growing that career and confidence with more study, having recently commenced a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with CQU.

“I am very excited to begin this course and once completed I hope to share my knowledge with others in a teaching-based role. I hope to one day reach my long-term goal of studying Exercise Physiology,” she said.

“I would highly recommend the Cert III and IV in Fitness at CQU to anyone that is looking to start a career in the Fitness Industry. The teachers and staff are kind, knowledgeable and incredibly supportive, and the informative course content teaches you all that you need to know about starting out in the Fitness Industry.”
