Three years on from completing a Certificate II and III in Fitness at CQUniversity, Ben Rudd’s career and athletic aspirations are healthier than ever.

The 20-year-old is now working to support other athletes as a strength and conditioning coach at the Wide Bay Sports Academy – a role that is a natural progression from his fitness studies.

“After I spent a gap year living in Europe, competing in cycling, I returned to Australia in October last year.

“Since I’ve been back, I have been enjoying working with the Wide Bay's top junior athletes with the Wide Bay Sports Academy (WBSA). Working with WBSA has been a great way for me to still be involved locally in sport and develop as a sports coaching professional and pass on my experiences competing at a high level to younger athletes.”

He said the skills and knowledge he acquired while studying Fitness at CQU informs his WBSA role every day.

“The fitness courses at CQU gave me the practical skills in coaching and confidence I need to be a good role model and coach for the young athletes at WBSA, particularly around communication skills in a gym environment,” he said.

Prior to taking up his role at WBSA, Ben worked for YMCA in Bundaberg.

Meanwhile Ben is still pursuing his own sports journey as a triathlete, getting back to the highest level.

He competes regularly in track cycling and triathlon, a passion he discovered while in high school, which in turn led him to study fitness at CQU at the same time.

He encouraged anyone with sport aspirations to consider studying Fitness at CQU.

“If someone is considering studying for a Certificate in Fitness at CQU I would say go for it! It is a fantastic course that gives you the confidence and practical skills that you need to excel in this industry and opens many doors for a career in fitness,” he said.
