Kobe University students soak up CQU Cairns’ sunshine

Japan’s Kobe University students got a taste of Queensland sunshine, culture and learning when they recently completed a study tour with CQUniversity in Cairns.

The 23 students visited the campus for two-weeks from 23 August to 7 September, combining English language learning, sustainability and environmental education, cultural experiences, and engagement with CQU local students and the wider Cairns community.

Led by the CQUGlobal team, students were also welcomed into local homestays and provided English classes through CQUEnglish, with the support of local CQU Student Ambassadors.

In addition to their studies, the students visited well-known Cairns locations, including a Green Island Living Classroom day-trip experience, visits to the Rainforestation Nature Park, Cairns Aquarium, Cairns Art Gallery, Rusty’s Markets, Kuranda, and SkyRail.

The tour group also received a special sustainability workshop and mangroves boardwalk session with CQU Adjunct Professor Steve Turton and participated in the Study Cairns Under One Sun parade alongside CQU staff and students.

CQU Partnerships and Mobility Coordinator Dominic de Moura McCarthy said it was great to have another Kobe University cohort return to CQU Cairns. 

“We were delighted to welcome Kobe University back to Cairns again and provide their students with this enriching experience,” he said. 

“Providing these opportunities to global universities is an important part of CQUniversity’s work in delivering inbound short programs, while also giving visiting students the opportunity to experience our campuses, communities and regions.”
