Rania scans for future opportunities in sonography
By Greg Chapman
Rania Singh’s sonography career has gone from strength to strength since graduating from CQUniversity, not only securing employment, but opportunities to present at major conferences.
The Brisbane-based alumnus is a general sonographer for I-Med Radiology – all while passing on her skills and knowledge to future sonographers as an academic casual at CQU.
“I was in the 2020 graduating class. I started my journey in 2017 after moving to Australia from Fiji,” she said.
“Ultrasound was suggested to me by my brother who was in medical school because he thought it might be of interest to me – and I’m so glad I pursued it.
“I’ve been with I-Med since I was a student. We need to complete placements on clinical sites, and I was lucky enough to be offered a contract, especially at a tough time for students during the COVID lockdowns.”
Rania said as she has been involved with training of students in her job with I-Med, it made sense to help train students at CQU.
“I felt I finally had enough experience to teach at the university level. I also felt a connection to the university and its students as I had gone through the same processes myself,” she said.
“I could relate to the students at the university and still utilise my skills as a full-time clinical sonographer to assist in the progress of future generations.”
Rania, and fellow graduate Charlotte Harmon, will present at the Australian Sonographers Association conference on the Gold Coast from 29–31 May.
“I will be presenting as a “new voice” sonographer on the topic of female pelvic floors - a symptom-based approach,” Rania said.
“I have done a few presentations for companies such as IMED, ASA and RAB on various topics ranging from gynaecology to MSK and even breast ultrasounds. I have presented on this topic a few times over the years now and was given an opportunity to present on a much larger scale at ASA this time. I am grateful and absolutely thrilled to present at ASA again this year at the Gold Coast.”
Rania and other representatives from CQUniversity’s sonography field will also network at the conference to help grow placement opportunities for students and strengthen industry engagement.
