The Mackay region’s tradies and apprentices will put their talents to the test when they compete in the 2026 regional WorldSkills competitions to be hosted by CQUniversity in April.

Competitions in plumbing, fitting, electrical control, electrical installation, and machining will be held at CQU’s Mackay Ooralea campus from 14-16 April.

CQU’s WorldSkills coordinator Jackie Campbell said the competitions would allow the region’s tradespeople to showcase the skills and knowledge they’ve acquired on-the-job and while undertaking training at CQU.

“CQU TAFE is proud to host these competitions. Our facilities are second to none and perfect for WorldSkills. Plus, our teaching staff are honoured to act as judges and work alongside industry representatives for many of the competitions.”

Last year, six CQU-trained apprentices made it all the way to compete in the 2025 WorldSkills National competition in Brisbane, with two receiving medals of excellence.

The dates for the Mackay competitions are as follows:

Fitting – 14 April

Electrical Installation and Electrical Control - 14-15 April

Turning – 16 April

Plumbing – 16 April

All competitions will be held from 8am-5pm.
