CQUniversity’s Dr Raquel Peel has been awarded the 2025 Australian Psychological Society (APS) Media Award for Public Engagement with Psychological Science.

The prestigious industry award has recognised her work in turning psychological science research into accessible information that supports mental health, relationship wellbeing and safer communities.

As a passionate advocate for healthy relationships, Dr Peel has dedicated her career to improving interpersonal connections, and in the process, shaped conversations across academia, industry and the general public.

She has used research to explore complex societal issues around relationships, mental health and suicide prevention, sharing information through national and international media, TEDx talks, public forums and community education initiatives.

“My goal has always been to make psychological research accessible and relevant so that people feel informed, supported and empowered in their relationships and wellbeing,” she said.

“I feel privileged to share these powerful messages, even if it helps one person recognise unsafe behaviour, seek help or support someone they care about.”

As Head of Course for Domestic and Family Violence Practice education and training units at CQU's Queensland Centre for Domestic and Family Violence Research (QCDFVR), Dr Peel also leads vital programs that equips practitioners, support services and the community to better understand and respond to domestic and family violence.

“I believe this APS award highlights the importance of the research-informed engagement we are championing at QCDFVR," Dr Peel said.

“Education is a powerful tool and I’m grateful to achieve this at CQU.”

The APS Major Awards include 14 award categories focused on different areas of mental health and psychology.
