CQUniversity has celebrated a record 2025 graduation event with more than 600 students crossing the stage across two ceremonies in Rockhampton.

Conferrals included 59 vocational education and training (VET) qualifications and 579 degrees - marking the largest graduating cohort in the University’s history.

CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Nick Klomp said among the cohort, 17 graduates received their doctorates - another record number for the University.

“Graduation is always a highlight of the year but seeing our largest ever cohort of PhD graduates walk across the stage was truly special,” Professor Klomp said.

“These graduates represent the strength and diversity of CQUniversity’s research capabilities, from agriculture to healthcare, social science and mathematics.

“Each of them has contributed new knowledge that has the potential to benefit communities around the world."

Prof Klomp said all of today’s graduates had worked incredibly hard to reach this important milestone in their lives.

“Completing a qualification is never easy - it takes determination, resilience and commitment,” he said.

“This milestone that has the power to change the course of our students’ lives - and the lives of those around them.

“I couldn’t be prouder of every student that graduated today and I wish them all the very best as they take their next steps.”

Liz Daly received her PhD today and said finishing her degree alongside so many research peers was an honour.

“Today is the culmination of years of work, resilience and support from my supervisors, family and the CQUniversity community,” Ms Daly said.

“To be graduating as part of the largest group of PhD candidates Rockhampton has seen makes the moment even more meaningful.

“It’s exciting to think about the collective impact our research will have across the region and beyond.”

The ceremonies also featured a keynote address from Beef Australia CEO, Mr Simon Irwin, who shared insights from his leadership journey and inspired graduates as they move into the next phase of their careers.

A range of outstanding students and alumni that were also recognised, included:

  • Mr Jesse Trecco-Alexander, recipient of the Alumni Award
  • Mr Thomas Rynne, recipient of the University Medal for achieving a Bachelor of Digital Media with Distinction

Graduation ceremonies will be held in Bundaberg and Gladstone next week with hundreds more students set to celebrate their studies with CQUniversity.
